I have taken a pledge to create more happiness in the world around me. To honour this pledge I have put together this list of 20 ways to be happier.
Please feel free to share this list, add to it, and make it your own.
Happiness is a habit that we have to practice on a daily basis.
Life is full of uncertainty, fear, and struggle, but we can cultivate a practice that brings out the true joy living inside us at all times.
These practices will make us more resilient and allow us to bounce back with more ease and grace from life’s challenges.
- Eat more bacon.
- There is NO such thing as too much cheese – you only live once.
- Get a pet – one that cuddles. A dog or cat is a good idea. Bunnies are cute too.
- Smile more.
- Give people stuff. It doesn’t have to be expensive or tangible. A hug is cool and so is a compliment.
- Enjoy time alone but also make time for friends and family.
- Love harder and be nicer.
- Drink more water.
- Help people where you can.
- Stick to your commitments.
- Colour in – yes – even if it’s in a child’s colouring book.
- Read, but read stuff you are interested in.
- Think before you speak.
- Travel if you can – even if you just take a drive to the beach.
- Don’t take life too seriously – there’s always reason for a smile.
- Eat healthy, but also eat chocolate.
- Get enough sleep.
- Say 'thank you' to the cashier, the petrol attendant, the security guard…to everyone.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Light a fire…and braai.
