KNYSNA NEWS - Hannah Verrier, a Grade 10 pupil at Oakhill School, travelled to New Zealand in the July school holidays for the Pan Pacific Youth Water Polo Festival.
Hannah was a goalkeeper in the U16 SA Girls team in March at the Cana Zone IV Tournament and then again in July in New Zealand as well as attending SA Water Polo squad training sessions in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
This young team that toured to New Zealand played two matches every day for two weeks – the first week as part of an U16 tournament and the second week competing in the U18 tournament. The team did extremely well, placing eighth in the U16 division, and 11th in the U18 division, both comprising 24 teams.
Says Hannah, "We competed with incredibly talented and well-conditioned teams, such as North Harbour (who won Pan Pacs two years ago) and New South Wales Blues (most of their players play for Australia U16 or even the women’s team). I have learned so much from my incredible coach and my experienced teammates and I’m so grateful to have played for my country."
