KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Yacht Club claimed top honours at the 2024 KYC Inter-club Regatta last weekend, winning the fast and cat fleets, while George Lakes Yacht Club won the slow fleet category.
This year's Inter-club regatta welcomed 60 entries from four different yacht clubs – George Lakes, Mossel Bay Sailing Club, Redhouse Yacht Club and, of course, Knysna Yacht Club.
Of these 60 entries, a healthy portion were young sailors from George Lakes and Mossel Bay, a positive sign for the sport of sailing.
The regatta took place in the Knysna Estuary on Saturday and Sunday, 20 and 21 January.
The weather played along on Saturday, with rather hot conditions aided by a south-eastern wind – the perfect wind for sailing in the estuary.
Boats line the shore before the race starts.
On Sunday things cooled down a bit, and the wind changed to the west-south-west direction – the most dreaded wind for sailing in the estuary – but it was strong enough for there to still be healthy racing on the second day. A total of seven races were sailed over the two days, with six to count.
The various winners were:
