The Kings were outstanding in beating the Waratahs in Sydney, and until the Cell C Sharks went and spoilt it by being held by the mediocre Rebels at Kings Park, it looked like it might be a weekend to confirm the perception that Australia don’t deserve to have the same number of teams in the competition as South Africa.
Good though the Kings were, it does not say much for the depth of Australian rugby that one of their top teams, and former Super Rugby champions to boot, should get beaten so comprehensively by South Africa’s sixth team in their own backyard. Those who never saw the Kings win might wonder how the word comprehensive could be used to describe the win.
