The Lions arrived safely late on Monday in Kiwi country for the Super Rugby final on Saturday against the Hurricanes in Wellington and now it’s all about recovery, said Lions coach Johan Ackermann on Tuesday from New Zealand.
Ackermann said while they could welcome back regular captain Warren Whiteley for this weekend, he was relieved their journey was completed without major hiccups.
“Happy that we had no delays, as could happen with the transfer flight from Australia to New Zealand, sometimes they don’t get that connection flight right,” he said.
“Fortunately everything was on time, although it still was a long flight, we only arrived after midnight on Monday at 00.30 and then the guys still had to sort out their rooms and get something to eat, so I suppose everyone just go to bed at around 02:00,” he said.
