KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna United RFC started the season strongly when they beat Excelsior Rugby Club 36-16 in a friendly match played at Wittedrift this past weekend.
Despite Excelsior holding a narrow 3-0 lead at half-time, it was Knysna United that made an impressive comeback in the second half, securing the victory.
First half
The first half was a tactical battle, with both teams putting up strong defences.
Excelsior, showing resilience, kept Knysna United scoreless through the first 40 minutes.
Their defence was well organised, and the only points of the half came from a penalty kick by Excelsior, giving them a 3-0 lead as the teams went into the break.
Second half
The second half saw a complete turnaround as Knysna United dominated proceedings.

The team came out with intensity and scored six tries, racking up a total of 36 points in the second period.
Herschelle Manuel starred with two tries, while Bradley Saptou also crossed the line twice. Sipho Buzani and Denelion Filander added one try each to complete the try-scoring.
Cheslin Draai contributed with two successful conversions, while Zayne Plaatjies also added a conversion to the scoreline.

Divan van Rooyen was named the Back Player of the Day for his excellent contribution in the backline.
On the forwards side, Ru-Charn Petersen was chosen as Forward Player of the Day for his dynamic and impactful performance in the scrums and loose play.
