KNYSNA RUGBY NEWS - Knysna has narrowly kept its playoff hopes alive in the SWD Municipal Rugby Challenge with a convincing victory over Kannaland at Grassy Park in Smutsville on Saturday 26 October.
Knysna would score a total of eight tries of which four were converted with the competition's leading try-scoring forward Michael Kapp bagging his sixth of the season while man-of-the-match Thurswin Phillips dotted down a try with the last play of the game to round out his hattrick for the day.
This handed Knysna a 48-17 victory, that sees the side with only a slim chance of making playoffs due to Central Karoo upsetting Bitou 33-24 in Prince Albert.
Due to Central Karoo now lying top with 20 points, Bitou second with 17, and Knysna third with 15, one of the following scenarios will need to happen this weekend for Knysna to qualify for the playoffs:
- Kannaland beats Bitou and Bitou either gets one or no bonus point. Knysna then beats Central Karoo, and no bonus point is needed for Knysna. This sees Central Karoo and Knysna progress
- Kannaland beats Bitou, but Bitou gets two bonus points. Knysna then beats Central Karoo by six or more, scoring less than four tries. This also sees Central Karoo and Knysna progress
- Kannaland beats Bitou, but Bitou gets two bonus points. Knysna then beats Central Karoo, scoring four tries or more to get a bonus point. This also sees Central Karoo and Knysna progress
- Bitou beat Kannaland, with or without a bonus point. Knysna then beats Central Karoo by 12 or more, scoring four tries or more, and makes sure Central Karoo does not score more than three tries. This will see Bitou and Knysna progress
