SEDGEFIELD NEWS - A mixed afternoon of rugby saw the Pic n Pay Sedgefield Eagle Stars record one win and two losses against George RFC on 18 April.
The Eagle Stars A team went down 17-24 to George RFC, who secured a four-try bonus point victory.
The home side struggled to settle in the opening half, allowing George to capitalise on handling errors and build early momentum.
Despite a strong second-half effort, Eagle Stars were unable to close the gap in a match that remained evenly poised for long periods.
The forward pack dominated the scrums, but the team failed to convert territorial advantage into a winning score.
Points came from inside centre Averon Jafta and veteran hooker Curt Ruiters, who both crossed the try line.
Fullback Hayeden Luiters added a conversion, while replacement fullback Adriaan Constable contributed a penalty and conversion, maintaining a 100% kicking record for the season.
B team
The B side produced a disciplined and structured performance to defeat George RFC 19-15.
Flyhalf Junaid Ruiters scored the team's only try, while also impressing with his tactical control of the game.
Captain and scrumhalf Chesco Julies played a decisive role, maintaining a flawless kicking record with four penalties and a conversion to steer his side to victory in a closely contested encounter.
C team secures first win of the season
The C team team claimed their first win of the season with a 10-0 victory over George RFC. While the side made several unforced errors that limited the margin, they remained in control for most of the match.
Flyhalf Elzano Damane and loose forward replacement Warren Oelf scored the tries that secured the win, marking a positive step forward for the team.
Eagle Stars will now travel to face Prince Albert at Grassy Park on 25 April.
