RUGBY NEWS - Bitou Rugby Club has got its season off to the best possible start, absolutely thumping their opponents Hungry Lions in Plettenberg Bay.
Bitou's two teams scored a total of 27 tries in only two matches, conceding no points in the process.
The SWD Rugby club rugby season is already well underway, with the SWD Super League A and SWD First Division A seasons already three rounds in. In Super League A, the top division of SWD club rugby, Jaguars had lost their opening three matches, having come up against a string of opposition that included both last year's winners (Crusaders) and runners-up (Heidelberg).
They had to travel to Mossel Bay on Saturday 15 April, where they took on Mossel Bay with all three of their sides. It was a less than ideal start for the visitors as they were beaten 45-0 in the third-team game. While their second team avoided being whitewashed, their fortunes weren't any different, losing 48-5 by the time the final whistle was blown.
An incredibly thrilling first-team game rounded out the day. After standing at 22-17 to Mossel Bay at half-time, the match ended 51-34 in favour of the home side.

In First Division A, the second tier of SWD club rugby, where Knysna United and Sedgefield Eagle Stars ply their trade, the two clubs experienced contrasting fortunes. Eagle Stars had won all three of their opening fixtures, while Knysna United had won one and lost two. Sadly though, both clubs' first and second teams lost their fixtures last weekend.
Eagle Stars took on Albertinia Rangers – the second team lost 48-13 and the first team lost 28-17 despite leading 17-14 at half-time. Knysna United faced Seagulls, and the second team was thumped 64-7 while the first team was beaten 45-24.
But, the highlight of the weekend belonged to Bitou, who had an incredible start to their season. They enjoyed the perfect day hosting Hungry Lions in Plettenberg Bay. The second team was in action first, scoring an incredible 13 tries to win 75-0.
Almost unbelievably, the first team was able to improve on this, scoring one more try and managing to run out 88-0 victors. A phenomenal way to start the season.
