Off-road cycling is the latest code added to the popular Varsity Sport franchise, which has expanded to include a mountain bike series, organisers confirmed on Wednesday.
The 2016 Varsity MTB Challenge would consist of two races, to be held in Bela Bela in July and Franschoek in October.
The new venture between Sports4U and Advent Sport and Entertainment Media (ASEM) would build on the successful Varsity Sport series which included rugby, football, netball, hockey and athletics campaigns.
“All universities are invited to enter and compete for the inaugural Varsity MTB Challenge Champions title,” said ASEM chief executive Francois Pienaar.
