KNYSNA NEWS - The Urban X 3km Obstacle and Trail Run returned last weekend for the first time in over a year, with more than 100 people taking to the course at and around Blackwaters River Lodge.
The event took place on Saturday 24 September in celebration of Heritage Day. Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa gave a special Heritage Day speech that encouraged attendees to embrace and celebrate their heritage, and wished them well for the run.
While it's been a while since the last Urban X, the route was very similar. However, a host of new obstacles was added to the second half, which used to have the bulk of the obstacles already.
In addition, the second half was run in reverse. The famous mud crawl under cargo netting was still there though, as were the climbing wall, the "slip n slide" and the colour paint throwing stations where participants emerged in bright shades of pink and blue.
The event is not timed, but Jay Jay Ndukwana did power ahead of the rest of the pack and finished first.
Overall winner Jay Jay Ndukwana powers his way through the mud.
Participants engage in a bit of a warm-up workout before the run.
