PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Youngsters will have the opportunity to show off their prowess in soccer and netball as Bitou is to host the Youth for Change Sports Tournament this month.
The tournament is for teenagers - male and female - under the age of 17, and will take place at the Kwanokuthula Sports Stadium on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay, between 11 and 13 October.
The opening games and group stages will take place on 11 October while the semi-finals, finals and awards ceremony are set to take place on 13 October.
Organisers said that 25 teams, and 320 athletes, would be competing.
Development
The objective of Youth for Change is to advocate for youth development and to, among others, raise awareness of drug and alcohol abuse.
"In its effort to do so, we have identified sport as one of the 'pull' mechanisms, to pull our at-risk youth away from drugs and alcohol abuse and to that effect, crime.
"These sports also seek to bring the community together, in a positive light, and also promote healthy lifestyles for our youth," organisers said. Over and above the sport, there will be other forms of entertainment, including music - and prizes up for grabs.
Entry is R500 per team and to register teams can contact 062 243 2930 or e-mail YouthForChange58@gmail.com.
