PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Greenwood Bay College's annual interhouse swimming gala, held at the Piesang Valley pool on Wednesday 19 March, was a splashing success.
"It proved to be a fitting end to a highly productive swimming season for the school," said Sipho Kenene, prep head of sport.
The participants greatly anticipated the event as not only house points were on the line, but bragging rights between friends. This led to increased competition among the Robberg, Bitou and Eden houses.
"The gala itself did not disappoint; it dished up some mouthwatering contests," said Kenene.
Among them were:
- u.10 girls: Holly Durandt (Robberg), Sarah Sinclair (Robberg) and Georgia Loughran (Bitou
- u.11 boys: Jack Tangney (Robberg) and Luc Botha (Robberg)
- • u.13 girls: Sabella van Zyl (Robberg), Ava Hall (Eden) and Maya Oosthuizen (Bitou).
"The increased level of competition and preparation across all age groups seemed to be the recipe for records to tumble at this year's event," said Kenene.
A total of 10 school records were broken. Holly set the most of these (three) as she powered away through her events.
"Thank you to all the staff, coaches, officials and parents for making the term a success," added Kenene.
