PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Once a year Hobie Beach is transformed into a colourful spectacle as some of the best sailors across the country make their way to Plett for the Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta.
This year won't be any different as organisers announced that the 2022 event will take place between 16 and 18 December.
The regatta is held every December in Plettenberg Bay and has become the premier beach catamaran event in the country. Participants spend three days racing on the bay with hobies, darts, nacras and other beach cats.
The event is not only enjoyed among sailors, but has become a favourite among residents and visitors who flock to the beach to see the colourful vessels and experience the vibe.
Spectators get to watch as the boats race "round the cans" - a set of buoys in the bay - or do a long-haul race from the mouth of the Keurbooms Lagoon all the way across to Robberg 5.
Organisers have said while the regatta attracts some of the best, it is not only earmarked for champions. "You just have to love beach cat sailing," the team said.
