KNYSNA HOCKEY NEWS - On Saturday 4 August, the final of the Eden Ladies hockey league took place at the Oakhill Sports Campus. Our home club, Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club, took on Glenwood Invitational (Glenwood House from George) who were appearing in their first final since joining the senior league three years ago.
It was expected to be a close game, but Old Oaks took an early advantage when Oakhill learner Charné de Wet scored a field goal in the third minute, and the club had more chances in the first half, winning a good few penalty corners, but they were unable to add to their scoreline.
Glenwood refused to back down and managed a field goal equalizer in the 29th minute from Ceara Grindley. The second half remained goalless until the 59th minute when Old Oaks scored a fantastic field goal by another Oakhill learner Jessica van Strijp, to secure a 2-1 win.
Old Oaks retain the Eden Senior League trophy. Glenwood Invitational put up an incredible fight and can walk away with pride, however, experience counted in the favour of the home team.
A huge thank you goes out to Old Oaks hockey sponsors Knysna Yamaha and all those who came to support.
