KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Through triumphing over Plett Hockey Club on Saturday 6 August, Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club's men's and ladies teams have made it two wins from two games - both since the recent restart of the league, and in the two rounds of games against Plett.
Two weeks ago the Eden Senior Hockey League returned to action on Saturday 30 July, having taken a month-long winter break in the middle of the season.
Old Oaks' teams enjoyed strong restarts with two comprehensive victories against George Hockey Club at the Oakhill Sports Campus (OSC).
Plett's side meanwhile suffered defeats to the teams of York High School.
In the next round of fixtures last weekend, Plett's ladies lined up to take on Old Oaks at Knysna High School (KHS) at 14:00 and the men faced Old Oaks at the OSC. Old Oaks' ladies got the game off to a strong start, scoring two goals in the first quarter. Another three goals followed in the second quarter to give them a 5-0 lead at half-time.
The third quarter was the quieter of the four as only one further goal was scored before Old Oaks added two more to their tally in the final quarter to earn an 8-0 win. Charné de Wet, Jessica Edkins and René Korsten each scored two goals while Emily Edkins and Shelley Colannani both contributed with a goal apiece.
Over at the OSC, the men's game got going at 15:30. Like their ladies counterparts, Old Oaks' men took a strong lead in the first quarter, going 3-0 ahead. They added two more in the second quarter while Plett added a goal of their own to make the score 5-1 at half-time.
Old Oaks and Plett both scored two goals in the third quarter, to set the score at 7-3.
The fourth quarter served up an interesting result as Old Oaks couldn't score another goal while Plett added two, bringing the score to 7-5 at the final whistle.
Nathan and Byron Shrosbree scored two goals each for Plett while Darron Brown scored one. Old Oaks' Jacques Potgieter scored four of his side's goals as Geeno du Plessis, Sean Mackenzie and Malcolm Quirk scored a goal each.
Old Oaks remain third behind York (first) and NMU George (second).
