PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – If you are a runner who is desperate to find a way to participate in this year's Otter Africa Trail Run, the silent auction for a single entry - organised by the Nature's Valley Trust and Magnetic South - is your very last chance.
The Otter African Trail Run is South Africa's most prestigious trail running event and takes place in some of the most beautiful and pristine wilderness in the world.
For the last 14 years South Africa's trail running fraternity has descended on the Garden Route to partake in this spectacularly beautiful but gruelling 42km race, stretching between Storms River and Nature's Valley.
Magnetic South, the driving force behind the demanding trail run, has been a supporter of conservation and the Nature's Valley Trust (NVT) for many years. According to a press release issued by NVT last week, the Magnetic South team has taken great care to ensure that the event not only treads lightly on the environment but in fact works towards restoring it as much as possible.
This has been attained through generous contributions to community development in Covie and to the conservation efforts of NVT.
With this partnership in mind, NVT is running a silent auction for one Otter trail run entry to be used at this year's (2022) Otter African Trail Run. These entries have officially sold out and are hot property, so if you don't already have an entry for the race, then this is your only chance.
The entry is for either The Race or The Challenge, depending on the runner's preference. So you can either mix it up with the fast guys and girls or challenge yourself to make the 11-hour cut-off time.
Bidding will start at R6 000, and everything above this amount will go towards supporting NVT. "In addition, we would like our winning bidder to represent NVT in the run and we would like to use this platform to raise additional funds towards the NVT conservation and education work. NVT is planning to set a stage for supporters to donate towards our athlete's kilometres completed," the organisation said in the media release.
"We will be accepting bids up until Friday 9 September at 13:00. Because of the silent nature of this auction, you will not know what amounts others are bidding. Please email your offer to info@naturesvalleytrust.co.za. After 13:00 on Friday we will contact the person who has made the highest bid and proceed to make arrangements for the transfer."
The racing takes place from 5 to 8 October, and for more details on the event you can visit www.otter.run.
"Nature's Valley Trust is extremely grateful for the generous donation from Magnetic South and is very excited to be partnering with them in the future to promote trail running, conservation and community development in the area," said the NVT.
