KNYSNA NEWS – Four girls from Knysna Primary School (KPS) recently represented the school and the Innovative Generation Tennis Academy (Igta) at the Western Cape TSA Rising Stars finals in Somerset West.
Janice Hartzenberg (Grade 7), Emma-Lee Lombard (Grade 6), Ava Muller (Grade 4) and Jenna van Vreden (Grade 6) are the four girls who make up the team.
They all train and hone their tennis skills under the watchful eye of Ivan Strydom at Igta where all four of them started playing tennis.
Their prowess was noticeable when they represented KPS in the Eden District Rising Stars tournament held in George a few months ago. The matches were the best of three sets, and they beat out competition from Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay to reach the final.
They lost to George South Primary School, but still qualified to participate in the Western Cape TSA (Tennis South Africa) Rising Stars finals that took place between 16 and 18 September.
This competition was split into two groups of five schools each and the girls came fourth in their group. Strydom is proud of his students' performances.
"The competition was very strong, but they played very well," he says. "With a little more experience we can compete with those schools."
