KNYSNA NEWS - On 20 August, the Knysna Shotokan Karate Academy participated in the WSKF Free State Shotokan Championships held at the Tempe Indoor Sports Centre in Bloemfontein.
The Knysna team, the Cobras, was made up of six karateka and their coach, sensei Shedwin Arries, was one of a few referees who managed affairs on the competition floor.
The Cobras excelled at the tournament and scooped 14 medals: two gold, four silver and eight bronze.
The academy aims to instil a sense of pride in their abilities. They have an open-door policy where parents are welcome to sit in during practice sessions.
"We also provide our karateka with a safe and friendly environment not only to get physically active, but to make a connection with their peers as well."
