KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Yacht Club (KYC) has made a proud return to the national sailing stage this week, competing in the prestigious 2025 J22 Lipton Challenge Cup Regatta.
Hosted by the Royal Cape Yacht Club, the event is one of South Africa’s most iconic sailing competitions, uniting top yacht clubs from across the country in a spirited battle for the Lipton Cup.
This year marks Knysna’s first appearance in several years, with the campaign driven by a passionate community effort. KYC members, local supporters, and businesses joined forces to prepare both the crew and the boat.
The team participated in Monday’s opening ceremony, proudly representing Knysna among South Africa’s elite sailors.
Leading the charge is experienced skipper Dave Shilton, a multiple Finn and J22 national champion, known for his calm leadership and tactical expertise. Trimmer Anthony Parker brings a wealth of international racing experience, including four GP14 and three Fireball world championships.
On the bow, Michael Hill’s well-rounded background across dinghies and keelboats adds valuable versatility to the team.

With backing from sponsors including Sanlam Private Wealth, Vision Yachts, Parker and Accountants, and the KYC membership, the team is poised to make a strong showing.
