KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna's first boys' and girls' hockey teams ended their season on a high note on Tuesday morning, 15 September, both recording victories over visitors Rallim from Sunningdale in Cape Town.
The Knysna boys won 3-0, while the girls secured a 2-1 victory.
The boys were impressive for most of the match, displaying precision, pace and attacking intent. Rallim, by contrast, were often hesitant in possession, which slowed their play and gave Knysna opportunities to launch attacks.
Knysna showed plenty of creativity and energy, particularly in the midfield. Kungawu Quza, Jack Pauw and Nicholas Fouche were dangerous going forward, combining excellent ball skills with attacking ability that at times left the Rallim defence in disarray.
Knysna goalkeeper Hlumelo Waxa was also in sparkling form, keeping the threatening Rallim attack at bay. Knysna created several scoring opportunities but were unable to make the most of all their chances against a porous visiting defence.
Kungawu Quza, Bismark du Plessis and Jack Pauw were the goalscorers for Knysna.
The Knysna girls hockey team dominated the opening half in both possession and attacking play. Shelley Troskie, Charlotte Michaelides and Joycelin van Zyl repeatedly tested the Rallim defence with their attacking skills and movement. They were particularly impressive.
Mia Grace made a major contribution in defence, helping Knysna maintain control and frustrate the visitors.
Rallim produced a much-improved performance in the second half, launching a series of counter-attacks. However, they lacked composure in the circle and missed several opportunities to level the score. Knysna's solid defensive organisation also made it difficult for Rallim to connect their passes through midfield.
Shelley Troskie and Leah Brand scored for Knysna in their 2-1 victory.
The first netball team also ended the season on a positive note, producing a solid all-round performance to beat Rallim 20-14.
