KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna's canoe polo players delivered a historic performance at the recent South African Canoe Polo Championships in Century City, signalling the town's return to prominence in one of paddling's most action-packed disciplines.
More than 75 players from 12 teams nationwide took part in the championships, but it was the Knysna Yacht Club teams who stole the headlines.
Knysna claimed national titles in four categories - U18 boys, U21 men, U21 women, and open men - marking the first time in six years that they have defeated long-time rivals Gauteng in Division One.
The championships also played a key role in shaping South Africa's squads for the Canoe Polo World Championships in Germany this September.
Several standout performers from Knysna have put themselves firmly in contention for national selection with their stellar displays throughout the three-day tournament.
Organisers praised sponsors for their support, including Century City, Sealand Gear, Nutri-Go and The Paddle Experience, whose contributions were vital to the smooth running of the event.
Local coaches Jamie Truby and Jack Ligeti also received special recognition for their dedication to nurturing talent and inspiring the next generation of paddlers.
