KNYSNA NEWS - Two Knysna boxers represented the Garden Route region very well when they both defeated their opponents at Nangoza Jebe Hall in Gqeberha on Saturday 8 March.
Mbuyiseli "King" Ndukwana, 32, a current Western Cape Lightweight champion, overcame Luthando Mkwini from Libode in the Eastern Cape in a six-round provincial bout.
This was an elimination bout for Ndukwana, who is now eligible to challenge for a South African title.
Likhona Mazele, 18, beat Asemahle Dwane from Gqeberha in a four-round junior featherweight fight.
Technical knockout
Ndukwana and Mazele fall under Gcobani Tom's Sonqoba Boxing Academy, based in Plettenberg Bay.
Tom, the manager of the two Knysna boxers, said going into the fights he had a feeling "that the boys would walk back to Knysna victorious".
"They both defeated their opponents by technical knockout. Ndukwana knocked down Mkwini in the fourth round, and Mazele put down the Gqeberha boxer in the second round," said Tom.
Likhona Mazele won his debut junior featherweight bout in Gqeberha.
Tom is planning to organise a national title bout for Ndukwana, who is now the number one challenger for the SA Lightweight title.
Mazele will carry on fighting provincially as he has just started boxing.
