ARCHERY NEWS - A new indoor archery range has opened on the outskirts of Mossel Bay, at the St Blaize Archery Club on the Outeniqua Game Farm on the R328 road, Ruiterbos.
The indoor shooting range caters to the archer who would like to fine-tune his shooting skills. Our indoor range will be moving into Mossel Bay in the course of the year.
Also at the archery club is a picturesque 3D field course in the valley with the Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop.
The 3D course comprises rubber molded animals with a target engraved to the sides, which is shot at to determine a score. Misses will score you zero points.
The club takes part in at least one monthly South African National Indoor and Field Archery Association (SANIFAA) sanctioned event, which is usually a provincial championship shoot and on the weekend of 5 May it will be taking part in the SANIFAA National Championships and holding a virtual shoot at the club.
The club took part in the Western Cape Provincial Championships on 25 and 26 February. Archers had the chance to shoot a one-day event or two-day event and they were shooting to qualify for provincial and national scores and then proceed to the world championships if they qualified.
The final national result combined will be available next week.
The club had members who qualified over the past weekend and it has members that have already represented South Africa at the 2023 World Archery Indoor Championships in Kent, England.
The club has different bow classes: compound bow, recurve bow and the long bow (Robin Hood-style bow).
Johan Boshoff, owner of the club, says: "If anyone would like to try this great sport, all you need is a good eye, a bow and the will to go the distance. Men, women and children are all welcome."
