PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The town is set to host the Hobie 16 National Regatta this year, adding to the fanfare of the annual Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta, which has become a firm favourite among sailors and spectators over the years.
Organisers said the Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta was going to bigger and better this festive season, after the successful bid to host the Hobie 16 National Regatta.
The events are to take place between 14 and 17 December at Hobie Beach.
This annual regatta is one of the largest and most competitive sailing-class competitions in South Africa.
Local legends
Organisers said due to the growing success of the Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta, sailors would be coming from around the country to race over the four days.
Among participants will be local sailing legends and world champions Blaine Dodds and William Edwards, who are also on the regatta organising committee.
The Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta sees Hobie Beach transformed into a colourful spectacle.
Organisers said hobie sailing was an inclusive, family-friendly activity and all sailors would be welcome to enter the event.
'Friendly bunch'
"And for those of you not yet fortunate enough to have had a taste of hobie sailing, come down to the beach.
"Hobie sailors are a friendly bunch who will be happy to chat," the organising team said.
