KNYSNA NEWS - On Thursday 27 July, the annual Golden Games were held at Loerie Park. The games act as a vehicle to bring the activities of older persons to a higher level in South Africa. It focuses on sport and recreation activities while at the same time strengthening, advancing and supporting the senior citizens.
The Golden Games were attended by participants from various old age care centres and homes, making the event an inclusive and active day for all.
These included Vermont Old Age Home, Ithemba Club in White Location, Masibonisani Club in Dam-se-Bos, and other elderly groups from Rheenendal and Sedgefield.
The Golden Games were organised by the Knysna Older Persons Forum. The seniors took part in different events such as field events, a duck walk, a dress-up race, passing the ball, 500m brisk walk, rugby ball throw, jukskei, ring the stick, pass ball and kick and goal-shooting.
There were also 100m, 200m and 400m track events, an 800m run and 4x200m relay sprint.
Knysna Older Persons wishes to thank Knysna Municipality, Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Department of Social Development, Knysna Police, Red Cross, Reverend Weber, and Mark Laminie of the Knysna Fire & Rescue Services, for their sponsorship and partnership contributions in making the day a successful and fun-filled event.
The Golden Games had a programme full of fun and engaging activities.
Elderly residents attending the Golden Games had the opportunity to participate in various activities on the day and support residents from other old age centres.
