NATIONAL NEWS - In a breaking news development, there is huge excitement in Garden Route mountain biking circles as George mountain biker Tristan Nortje has been confirmed to team up with three-time champion Matt Beers for the 2026 edition of the Absa Cape Epic.
The young George powerhouse joins the experienced Beers in the elite men’s field after Beers’ original teammate, Keegan Swenson of the USA, was forced to withdraw from the race due to injury.

Beers is widely regarded as one of the strongest marathon mountain bikers in the world and has won the gruelling stage race three times.
Nortje has already showcased his ability at the Cape Epic with strong performances in previous editions and will now line up alongside one of the race’s most successful riders.
The all-South African duo will enjoy massive home crowd support as they aim to challenge for stage victories when the eight-day race gets underway at Meerendal Wine Estate with the prologue next Sunday, 15 March.
