KNYSNA NEWS - Eden Light Tackle Boat Angling Association (ELTBAA) sent a two-person ladies team and a two-person U21 (young ladies) team to the SA National Championships held in Port Elizabeth from 26 March to 2 April.
Both teams did extremely well and held the Eden name high.
The U21s finished fifth overall and achieved some personal bests, and Gene Viljoen is also now ranked eighth in SA.
The ladies team finished second. Sanet Prinsloo Theron took a gold medal for the heaviest non-edible of the tournament with a ragged-tooth shark of 57,59kg and finished seventh overall individually in her first national ever.
Sanwyn Smith, from Sedgefield, took a gold medal for the heaviest bag caught on any one day in the tournament of 199,91kg, was the day winner for two days of the four-day event, finished second overall individually, and is now ranked second in South Africa.
It was a first for Eden to send only girls and ladies to represent the district and they did everyone involved with ELTBAA so proud.
Light tackle boat angling is an amazing family sport where participants only use a 4kg line and release their catches after measuring and photograph them.
