SURFING NEWS - Young surfers from Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Sedgefield made their mark at the 2022 SA Junior Surfing Championships, held at lower point Jeffrey's Bay last weekend.
"What a fantastic five days it has been for the Eden juniors," said team manager Phillip Crankshaw.
"More of the juniors advanced to round three than before, with some excellent scores being posted." There were four surfers from Plett in the Eden team, two from Knysna and one from Sedgefield.
Crankshaw said they experienced some action-packed heats in round four which saw some surfers advance to the next rounds. Sophia Jackson of Plettenberg Bay reached the girls U14 final and placed fourth.
Her brother, Luc, made it through to the U12 boys quarter-finals. Tristan Gaylord-Ralfe, from Knysna, (U14 boys), and Cally Kleinsmit, from Plett, (U16 girls), also reached the quarter-finals.
"The waves were excellent and the weather fantastic. We can be proud of all who took part," said Crankshaw. Other achievements were Nathan van der Griendt from Knysna and Luke Witte from Plett, who both made it to round three, while Liam Stevenson from Plett managed to complete round two and was knocked out in the repo round.
