SEDGEFIELD NEWS - The Sedgefield 500, a thrilling self-supported gravel bike race, is all set to go ahead next month.
The race is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and raw intensity, which challenges participants to conquer a gruelling 500km course like no other.
On 8 September, the Sedgefield 500 will kick off, attracting gravel enthusiasts from far and wide who are eager to push their limits and discover the true essence of adventure.
With no aid stations and no route markings, riders are provided with a route GPX file and the freedom to ride it their way.
This ultimate test of grit and determi-nation showcases the unyielding spirit of the participants as they navigate the rugged terrain, relying solely on their own resources. The Sedgefield 500 offers two classifications for riders to choose from: Solo and Groups/Touring. Solo riders aim to beat the incredible record set by the 2022 solo winner, Luuk van den Heuvel, who completed the course in an astonishing 26 hours and six minutes.
For those seeking a more leisurely experience, the Groups/Touring classification allows riders to enjoy the journey at their own pace, soaking in the beauty of the Garden Route before reaching the cut-off time.
"The Sedgefield 500 is not just a race; it's an opportunity to push boundaries and immerse oneself in the sheer thrill of gravel adventure," said Duncan van Niekerk, director of The Gravalist, organisers of the race.
"It's about testing your limits, forging connections with fellow riders, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. We invite all gravel enthusiasts to join us for this extraordinary event and see if they have what it takes to conquer the Sedgefield 500." Whether you're a seasoned gravel warrior or a passionate cyclist ready to embrace the untamed, the Sedgefield 500 promises an unforgettable experience.
With its stunning landscapes, challenging terrain, and the sense of camaraderie that accompanies such an epic endeavour, this event is set to captivate participants and spectators alike. Registration is now open and spaces are limited.
