KNYSNA NEWS - In a sterling effort to uphold the proud tradition of World Plumbing Day earlier this month, local plumbing supply store Plumblink Knysna surfaced as the big winner after five weeks of fierce competitive fun between many of the town's businesses on the greens of Knysna Bowling Club.
Their team Plumb won Section A for the heavy hitters and their team Link finished runner-up in Section B for up-and-coming promising players.
Thirty-six teams of four players each, mostly non-bowlers (although one registered bowler is permitted per team, if desired) have been playing in a weighted league system since mid-February, held on Friday evenings. By pitting strength versus strength based on the previous week's results, the three sections of 12 teams had all amassed a certain number of points that determined where each team finished on the log in their section.
Thanks to generous sponsorship, all the section winners received prizes, but their big reward is the opportunity to play against selected teams from Knysna Bowling Club on Friday 22 March in an all-stars challenge. Spectators are welcome and food and beverages will be available for players and onlookers. In Section A, the runners-up were The Saloon, while Buco Leisure finished third. A team of residents from Knysna Lifestyle Estate won Section B, while team The Mets from Metelerkamps finished third.
Section C for the most inexperienced players, or those purely there for the social, was won by an accomplished team of ladies calling themselves The Power Rangers, Spur Steak Ranch finished runner-up, with the Sanparks Sea Pirates taking the bronze medal position.
Interested participants or teams can look forward to the next instalment of this event in September. Contact the club on 044 382 3619 for details.
