KNYSNA NEWS - Pezula Championship Golf Course last month played host to three days of scintillating golf action as hundreds of golfers tackled the greens in three different competitions, a weekend that has become known as the Festival of Golf.
Day 1: Motus Heron Classic
The Motus Festival of Golf took place on 27 June, which got under way with a shotgun start at 11:30. Day one of the Festival of Golf was full of fun and excitement and amazing prizes to be won, with 76 players in total playing a better-ball Stableford format.
Motus and Imperial Auto were the full sponsors of the day, while Callaway had a promotion running during the course of the Motus Heron Classic and the Motus Pezula Pro-Am (on Sunday) fun competition held from the upper terrace of the Pezula Clubhouse down to the chipping practice green.
Day 2: Europcar Knysna Classic
The Europcar Knysna Classic Golf Day on 28 June kicked off with a shotgun start at 10:30, in a classic fourball-alliance format two scores to count, one to count on the par 3s. Europcar, Jaguar and Land Rover were the full sponsors of the day. On holes 1 and 10 there were activities taking place with biltong and tasty braai snacks available which were a delight to the players' taste buds. Guest speaker Martin Vrydall handed out the prizes at prize-giving.
Day 3: Motus Pezula Pro-Am
Finally, on Sunday 29 June, the Motus Pezula Pro-Am took place with a fourball-alliance format. This game was played with a professional hosting in each fourball (one professional and three amateurs) to play in an alliance format. Pezula hosted a 99-player field, in total there were 22 professionals from the Southern Cape region.
The day was full of excitement and a competitive streak rose among all players to get the most points in the team format. The PGA Qualified/Sunshine Tour players had a separate format where they played an individual Stableford for their order of merit points as well as the total purse prize winnings for the pros. The pro-am winner was Chris Dixon from Knysna Golf Club.
