KNYSNA NEWS - On Sunday afternoon, 3 August, the Red Eagles FC second team punished Young Smuts FC (Sedgefield) 6-0 in a thrilling Knysna Local Football Association Domestic League fixture at Loerie Park.
Khanyisa Nkohla, Mailula Jason, Mondray Danhouse (hat-trick) and Elvemico Michelle contributed the six goals for Red Eagles.
Nkohla, Red Eagles' central middle-fielder, performed very well in the centre creating goal scoring chances for his side and scored the opening goal.
Both teams are facing an uphill struggle in the stream B log standings. With seven points, Voota FC is currently logged at the bottom of the KLFA Domestic League and the Sedgefield outfit, Young Smuts (the reserve side of Smuts United) is also among the bottom positions with nine points.
The game got off to a perfect start with Young Smuts driving forward relentlessly. They received a free kick from the centre of the field, but it was cleared by the Red Eagles back line.
Khanyisa Nkohla scored the first goal, setting the challenge for Young Smuts, but Young Smuts absorbed the pressure well and managed to defend Red Eagles wingers' offensive play.
However, Red Eagles extended their lead from a penalty with a delightful kick from Mailula Jason. Eagles remained on attack and Danhouse scored his second goal just before the half-time whistle. The first half ended 4-0 with Young Smuts trailing into the break.
The second half saw both teams playing great touches on the ball. Young Smuts attacked with full force, but the Red Eagles back line prevented them from breaking through. Young Smuts was further crippled when one of its players was sent off with a red card.
Red Eagles' fifth and sixth points came from Mondray Danhouse (his third goal) and a penalty by Elvemico Michelle shortly before the final whistle.
