KNYSNA NEWS - Voota Football Club of Knysna, formerly known as CX Celtics, downed Black Cats 1-0 in a tough Safa Eden Hollywoodbets Regional League game on Saturday 8 February at George's Lawaaikamp Stadium.
One of the stars
Lukhanyo Phaphu of Voota FC, one of the stars of the game, scored the the winning goal.
With 27 points, Voota, in fourth position in the Safa Eden Regional League log table, are pushing hard to be in the top position.
They have played 15 fixtures, winning eight, drawing three, and losing four. The home team, the Cats, are in second position in the log.
Good start
The game got off to a good start, with the visitors steadily controlling the right side of the field, trying to get their first goal.
Both teams then used their strength on the flanks to create opportunities. Siphamandla Hlangabeza of the Cats took a shot at goal from just outside the box, but it went over the woodwork.
Clear-cut chances
The first half ended goalless, after both sides missed clear-cut chances inside the box.
Voota started the second half at a fast pace, building passes in their hunt for a goal.
Nkosiyabo Toto of Black Cats then launched a positive move, putting pressure on the Voota back line, but they did very well in sweeping away a dangerous ball.
Voota took the game from the Cats, pushing from the centre, and employing the pace of Khanyiso Fatyela to break through the Cats' stubborn back line.
Powerful strike
The visitors were awarded a corner kick, from where Phaphu delivered a powerful strike that beat the Cats goalkeeper.
Following this, the Cats struggled to break through Voota's back line.
Hlangabeza then missed a golden opportunity, his shot going wide of an open net. Cats' Xolani Mandla also tried his luck in the dying moments of the game, his shot saved by Voota goalkeeper Asanele Vulani.
Voota collected maximum points away from home.
