KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna's hopes of reaching the Western Cape Championship were dashed last Sunday when Southern Stars went down 4-1 against FC Milan in an exciting Safa Eden Regional Women's League final. The match was played at Smutsville Stadium in Sedgefield.
FC Milan's duo, Naye Sitofile and Indiphile Mose, each scored twice for the Mossel Bay side, while Thimna Boyce netted the only goal for Southern Stars from the penalty spot.
Despite determined efforts from Likhona Tyelo, Okuhle Maku and Yibanathi Ngcobondwana, the Stars struggled to break through Milan's defence, with goalkeeper Owethu Gxaba delivering a standout performance.
FC Milan, who topped their stream with 22 points this season, took early control of the match. Sitofile opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Mose's brace made it 3-0 at half-time.
Boyce briefly lifted Southern Stars' hopes after converting a penalty, but Sitofile sealed the result late in the game.
After the match, Stars head coach Patrick Bosch admitted his side were second to most balls and failed to capitalise on their chances. He praised captain Boyce's fighting spirit, calling her "a true leader and motivator," but conceded that on the day, "the best team won."
