PLETTENBERG BAY FOOTBALL NEWS - Former Premier Soccer League player Masibusane Zongo has joined the newly promoted Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League outfit from Plettenberg Bay, Oriented Birds Football Club.
The 33-year-old is a Supersport United product and will be playing in the Safa Eden Region for the first time in his football career.
Zongo was one of the superstars on the South African football scene, but his career took a dip when he allowed social ills to take over. Oriented Birds will provide him with another opportunity to revive his flailing career.
He has played for many teams in the top flight such as Supersport United, University of Pretoria, Chippa United, the defunct Platinum Stars, Vasco da Gama and Royal AM. Zongo also represented South Africa internationally at U17 and U20 levels.
His introduction to the Premier Soccer League was on 29 October 2008 when Supersport United defeated Maritzburg United 5-0, and he got to score his first goal that day.
The high-flying Birds will be campaigning in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League for the upcoming 2023/24 season. Two other attacking-minded players from the Eden Region were given an opportunity to join the Oriented Birds' ABC Motsepe team - Chulumanco Nkohla from Knysna Celtics and Mula Fransisco from Sea Birds in Mossel Bay.
According to Oriented Birds head coach, Marx Banzi, Zongo reported to training this week along with the rest of the team as they are getting ready for the pre-season practices.
He said Zongo seems to be in good form and will be adding value and experience to the team.
Khanyisani Radebe, one of OB's senior players, reflected after Zongo's arrival at their camp in Plettenberg Bay. "Zongo is more than happy and he is in good state of mind. He looks very hungry for the game and he is showing more commitment and leadership skills to the team," Radebe said.
He is working very closely with Zongo and believes that Zongo will play a large role in taking the team to the top in the Eden Region.
