The Team of Choice are now managed by a man who has been Komphela’s assistant at Free State Stars and Maritzburg. Mandla Ncikazi will lead the team from the KwaZulu-Natal capital in their first participation in the MTN8 after finishing in the top eight for the first time in the club’s history.
“I played for AmaZulu, but last season I was part of the technical team that relegated them,” Ncikazi said.
“This game always offers some interesting match ups and outcomes. Steve has done so much for my coaching career, now I have to meet him in my first game as a head coach. But having said that, he doesn’t know what is happening at Maritzburg United currently. A lot of people here don’t even know my name, for me that’s an advantage. Steve will be surprised. South Africa will be surprised.”
Komphela was calm as he talked about starting his new chapter at Chiefs with a meeting against his former team.
