PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The competition was intense on Friday 13 September for soccer teams of the Sticks & Balls Sports Academy, playing the finals of their league season.
It was Friday the 13th for the losers, but for some of the teams, especially the U-10 King of Cars, who rose to the spirit of the competition, it was an unbelievable result that only intense competition can produce.
The team of youngsters ended their previous run against Green Mouse, starting with a loss of 12-0, then a 5-3 loss, followed by another loss of 4-3 then… a 3-2 win in the final!
A team spirit that left some joy - and some tears.
"The soccer is run on a round-robin league format for eight teams," said the academy's Byron Shrosbree.
The academy has been in existence for five years in a variety of social sports programmes, from 5-a-side soccer, netball, hockey, indoor cricket, touch rugby for kids and adults of all ages and skill levels.
