Over the last couple of weeks, speculation has been rife that Aces would trade their Premiership status for a whooping R82 million offered by Usuthu. However, Aces finally came out to dismiss such speculation.
Full statement below:
“When we were approached by AmaZulu F.C to purchase the Aces PSL status, we were always aware that this agreement was subject to the approval of the PSL Executive Committee.
“We have been informed that this agreement was not forthcoming and we respect it wholeheartedly. At no stage did Aces stop preparing for the upcoming PSL season, in fact, Aces was the first team to start Pre-Season and is still continuing.
“We would like to clarify that at no point was the club and brand ‘Black Aces’ going to disappear. On the contrary, this deal was going to assist in repositioning the brand to a better quality football club.
“We were touched by the response and reaction of our supporters, and would like to publicly apologise to all our supporters for any inconvenience caused as well as the emotional turmoil they may have encountered during this period.
“We would like to confirm that we have devoted all our energy and resources toward this club, and will continue to do so.
“Over the past 11 years, we have had our supporters and fans next to us and assisting us in building this brand, of which we are proud to say is the largest supported brand in Mpumalanga and one of the largest supported brands within the football fraternity in South Africa.
“This will continue and we hope that the same supporters and fans will hold our hand toward a prosperous future for the club that is Mpumalanga Black Aces FC.”
