KNYSNA NEWS - Star Knysna cricketer Tristan Stubbs has been nominated for two domestic cricket awards as part of the 2021/22 Cricket SA Awards, and Sean Whitehead, who played club cricket for Knysna Cavaliers, was also nominated for a domestic cricket award.
Aimed at recognising the leading men and women on both domestic and international fronts, the virtual awards ceremony will be held on Sunday 14 August at 19:00.
This season, CSA welcomed the new two-division, fifteen-team first-class system; which replaced the franchise system.
The new structure saw both Division One and Two teams participate in the CSA T20 Knockout Competition; as well as competing for the CSA Four-Day Series and the CSA One-Day Domestic Cup, in the respective divisions. Division One teams also played the CSA T20 Challenge in a managed event environment (MEE) in Gqeberha.
For his exploits with the Warriors, Stubbs has been nominated for two awards - the Division 1 T20 Challenge Player of the Season and the Domestic Newcomer of the Season. In the CSA T20 Challenge, he finished as the second-highest run scorer.
He scored 293 runs in seven matches at an average of 48,83 and a strike rate of 183,12, including three half-centuries. Two innings of note came when he smashed 80* off just 31 balls against the Dolphins, and 65 off 35 balls against the Knights.
Sean Whitehead, who played club cricket for Knysna Cavaliers when not on SWD duty, has been nominated for the Division 2 Four-Day Domestic Series Player of the Season award.
