GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Pacaltsdorp United retained the Six Gun Grill SWD T20 knock-out title this past Sunday, after a comprehensive nine-wicket victory against Mossel Bay.
The challengers, Mossel Bay, who were put in to bat, had a good start but could not capitalise on it and were restricted to 109/9 after 20 overs, thanks to tight bowling from Grant Simpson (2/23), Anoxolo Kitshini (2/18) and Liyabona Malife (2/21).
Pacaltsdorp easily chased down the target, responding with 112/9 after only 9.5 overs for an easy victory. Askin Louw (36* from 26 balls; 5x4) and George van Heerden (51* from 17 balls) were destructive with the bat. They received good support from Bradley Carolus (23).
Semi-finals
Mossel Bay, a promotion league club, caused another upset when they became the first promotion league team to advance to the final after a thrilling six-wicket victory over Plett Pioneers.
Pioneers batted first, posting a competitive 144/6 after 20 overs with Dandrick Moodien (39) the top scorer. Kevin de Kock (3/34) and Zayed Jacobs (2/10) were the pick of the bowlers for Mossel Bay. Thanks to a brilliant run chase by Jacobs (67), Tony Ferreira (23) and Kevin de Kock (19), Mossel Bay surpassed the target with 148/4, with an over to spare.
In the other semi-final, Pacaltsdorp United recorded an easy eight-wicket victory against Knysna Cavaliers. Batting first, Cavaliers was restricted to a modest 89 all out. For Pacaltsdorp, Warren Bell excelled with figures of 5/22 in four overs.
Pacaltsdorp United cruised to an easy eight-wicket victory thanks to contributions from Askin Louw (55* from 36 balls; 4x6, 6x4) and Warren Bell (22* from 25 balls; 1x6, 2x4).
