The aim was to raise funds for two prominent charities, the South African Jaques Kallis Foundation and Australian Youth Focus.
The event was hosted by Barry Richards, ex-South African cricketer who, according to Ingrid Diesel (owner of Ingrid Diesel Consulting and Events), is "slowly becoming a Knysna local", after recently moving back to South Africa from Australia and settling in Knysna. "He still commentates for international series abroad and is addicted to golf!" explained Diesel.
Corporate golf players were paired with international cricketers such as Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, JP Duminy, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Ashwell Prince, Justin Langer and many more.
"Even some old legends joined the field, in Dave Rundle and Garth le Roux," said Diesel.
Close on R200 000 was raised from corporate sales and an auction which saw items such as FA CUP Final tickets and a private visit to Lords, receiving top dollar.
"The money will be shared between Youth Focus of Australia (committed to making a difference in the lives of young people who are suffering from depression).
"This cause is close to Richards’ heart as he lost a child to depression two years ago," explained Diesel.
The other beneficiary, the Jacques Kallis Foundation, aims to combine the academic and life skills programmes of existing school structures with the funding and mentorship of Jacques Kallis. Diesel explained: "In doing so, they provide talented young cricketers from various backgrounds with the opportunity to reach their full sporting and academic potential."
Richards concluded, "It was a fantastic day and the cricketers thoroughly enjoyed themselves and supported the cause. The event was superbly organised and we have had great feedback from our corporate guests too. I would like to thank all the cricketers, sponsors and the organising team who participated in raising funds for these two wonderful charities."
