KNYSNA NEWS - South Western Districts Cricket announced in a media statement on Tuesday that Knysna High School has been identified to receive the status of a Cricket South Africa Focus School.
The school, based in the heart of Knysna, has a proud tradition of cricket, and this boost of support will continue to resurrect and develop cricket in the Knysna region, providing further opportunities for players to showcase and develop their skills.
The initiative is funded by Cricket South Africa.
Irvin Campher, who is also the club coach at the Knysna Cavaliers Cricket Club, has been appointed as the Focus School cricket coach and will work closely with staff to develop a sound and exciting cricket culture that embraces both boys' and girls' cricket.
"A key focus is to grow the number of participants and teams at the school with an aim to develop Knysna High School into a school that consistently competes at the highest school levels, while producing provincial and national representative cricketers," the statement reads.
"Close links with the primary schools and various outreach programmes in the area will ensure that cricketers are afforded the opportunity to follow their dreams locally, and in a school that has a proud academic history."
Present at the announcement of Knysna High School as Cricket SA Focus School were Garry Hampson (coach education manager at SWD Cricket), Irvin Campher (appointed Focus School coach), Mark Mosdell (headmaster), Gary Moos (cricket services manager at SWD Cricket) and Werner Botha (head of cricket at the school).
