KNYSNA NEWS - On 19 May an epic competition played out between two longstanding rivals - Team Knysna Rotary and Team Epilepsy SA South Cape/ Karoo Branch.
These two parties have met annually for the last 15 years to play for the coveted Rotary/Epilepsy Cricket Floating Trophy.
Team Epilepsy arrived prepped and ready to do battle - hungry for a win after last year's surprise defeat.
Unfortunately the same could not be said for Team Rotary, who appeared nonchalant and without a care in in the world. Alas, the single-mindedness and steely resolve of the opposition soon created uncertainty among the Rotarians.
Captain Mike Mills, fearing another annihilation, as had been the case in years gone by, rallied his troops, admonishing them for their laissez-faire attitude.
Team Rotary players heeded this stern warning and started to focus, bowling with great accuracy, and scoring one run after the other.
But to no avail, as the intrepid members of Team Epilepsy were simply too strong for the opposition.
There was great jubilation in the Epilepsy ranks as the highly desired trophy was claimed once again.
As in battles lost and won, reconciliation and peace were declared and everyone sat down together to enjoy the traditional post-match boerie-rolls, salads and ice-cream.
With much handshaking, back-patting and a promise that the contest of 2024 would be one to be remembered, participants went home, dreaming of next year's win.
The teams get together after the match.
Team Epilepsy celebrate.
