ATHLETICS NEWS - With only 20% vision and after continuous hours of training, the Mayberry Park para-triathlete is off to represent the country in Bermingham.
Visually impaired Gavin Kilpatrick and his guide Casper Moodie have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2022 Bermingham Commonwealth Games.
The triathlete and his faithful guide will be put to the test as they race through the streets of Birmingham.
An excited Gavin told the Alberton RECORD they are focused and ready for the big race.
He said they want to thrive on the positive pressures brought on by this experience.
“We will be up against the world’s best on July 31 to take on the challenge of a sprint distance triathlon of a 750m swim followed by a 20km tandem cycle. And we will finish off with a blistering paced 5km run,” said Gavin.
He previously said his journey is not for personal glory, but to encourage people to take on challenges they never thought were possible.
