KNYSNA NEWS - Online entries for the Knysna Heads Marathon, which takes place on Saturday 8 March, close at midnight on 4 March.
The event consists of four distances, namely a 5km fun run, a 10km race, a 21.1km half marathon, and a 42.2km marathon, and the fun run and races start and end on Thesen Island.
The half marathon and marathon runners run around the Knysna Golf Club, head towards Leisure Isle, run around it, and head towards the East Head.
From the East Head the runners head towards Thesen Island, with those participating in the half marathon finishing on the island, and the marathon runners continuing along Waterfront Drive, and then along the N2.
Before reaching the Phantom Pass Road the marathon runners turn around and head back to Thesen Island.
'Flat and beautiful'
"Flat and beautiful don't often go together but the Knysna Heads Marathon gets full marks on both counts.
"The highest point on the route is just 30m above sea level. This is a tranquil tour around the Knysna lagoon which hugs the water for all but 2.4km of the entire route," marathon organiser, and vice-chairman of the Knysna Marathon Club, Barry Danvers, said.
Online entries are available at https://knysnamarathonclub.co.za/heads-marathon/
Runners can also register on the day the marathon takes place.
Entry fees are R35.00, R80.00, R100.00 and R125.00 for the 5km fun run, 10km race, half marathon, and marathon respectively (R20 extra for on-the-day entries).
The race convener is Morney Willemse and he can be contacted on 065 857 0273 or at mwillemse@westerncape.gov.za if runners want more information on the race.
The 42.2km marathon is a Comrades Marathon qualifying race.
