ATHLETICS NEWS - Nedbank SWD is hoping that four of its runners - Willard Jussah, Samuel Mandlazi, Themba Mona and Eddie Mouton - will earn silver medals in the Comrades Marathon that is taking place on Sunday 11 June.
This year the marathon starts at 05:30 at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishes in Durban.
"There are strong runners in the women's category and we are looking at Cecilia Nel, Elmien Nel, Lien Kotze and Joan van Wyngaard for a Bill Rowan medal [under 9 hours]," says Danie Raubenheimer, spokesperson for Nedbank SWD.
Members who will participate who have earned the most medals at the Comrades are Eddie Mouton (26), Elsabe de Klerk (25), Alison Jordaan (18), Una Saayman (17) and Marali Olen (14).
Nine novice runners (who will be doing their first Comrades) will be taking part. They are Chelsea Simpson, Anneri Botha, Lien Kotze, Tania Noble, Adelise Bisschoff, Willard Jussah, Chandre Boshoff, Schalk Joubert and Jaco Lamprecht.
Other athletes from Nedbank SWD (additional to the above-mentioned) that have entered the race, are Wynand Pretorius, Eleen Thompson, Daniel Stevens, Frances Visser, Johann Visser, Diana Mouton, Benita Joubert, Michelle Bezuidenhout, Percy Bezuidenhout, Melvin Koopman, Nerida Lubbe and Benton Summers.
