PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - About 600 school athletes took part in the Knysna, Plett and Sedgefield three-districts sports meeting held at Wittedrift High School on Saturday 8 February - the first time in 27 years that such a meeting was held there.
Joanita Arends, chairperson of Knysna, Plett and Sedgefield School Sports (KPSSS) described the event, hosted by Wittedrift Primary and Greenwood Bay College, as "highly successful".
'Good teamwork'
She lauded the "very good teamwork" from officials and coaches and thanked Wittedrift High for making its sports fields available.
She was also grateful for the contributions made by the community, and said that "everything was well planned and organised".
The last time such an athletics competition was held there was in 1998. Arends also thanked the Red Cross, Bitou law enforcement and Plett Security for the assistance they provided.
About 200 athletes qualified at the meeting to take part in the Eden Championships on 22 February in Oudtshoorn at the De Jager Sports Complex.
'Outstanding achievements'
Knysna will be send 100 athletes, Plett 80 and Sedgefield 20, between the ages of 7 and 13.

Arends said there were some "outstanding achievements" on the Saturday.
"I hope to see the record-breakers and more of our athletes in the Eden team. Good luck to all. I'm super proud," she said.
Those athletes between the ages of 10 and 13 who qualify at the Eden Championships will go on to participate in the Western Cape Championships, to be held on 8 March in Paarl at the Dal Josafat Stadium.
