KNYSNA NEWS - Requelme Juicy, a Grade 7 learner at Knysna Primary School, is on his way to Swaziland after being selected to represent South Africa in the COSASSA Schools Athletics Championships. The championships will be held from 23 to 28 August.
Juicy is the joint South African record holder in the high jump for his age group (U13), with a height of 1.75m.
He recently won gold at the SA Championships, setting the new national mark.
In addition to his athletic achieve-ments, Juicy has been offered a place at Paul Roos Gymnasium to continue his secondary education.
His coach, Radian Williams, says he's proud of Juicy's progress.
"I'm proud to see him representing South Africa at such a young age. I expected a podium finish at the SA Champs, and he delivered with a new record. But this time, I've told him to just enjoy the experience and appreciate the opportunity."
Williams said Juicy had just returned from the Craven Week rugby tourna-ment, and his body needs time to recover.
"He's very talented, but still just a boy. We're focusing on proper recovery first, then refining his technique and nutrition to shift back into athletics."
To make the trip to Swaziland, Juicy will need R12 000 to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
