KNYSNA NEWS - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) announced the dates for its final voter registration weekend for the 2019 national and provincial elections recently, and with it encouraged all registered and nonregistered voters in SA to ensure their details are captured so that citizens could make their mark.
According to the IEC website, the country’s 22 932 voting stations will open from 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturday 26 January and Sunday 27 January to allow first-time voters to register.
The statement said currently there are 26.1-million registered voters on the national common voters’ roll, "and it is hoped that at least 1-million voters will be added to the voters’ roll ahead of the 2019 elections".
The IEC also expressed its hope that those citizens already registered will use the final registration weekend to visit their allocated voting station, check their registration details, and update said details if required.
In addition, according to the statement, registered voters can visit the IEC website at www.elections.org.za to check their current registration details and voting station location. An SMS containing the voters' ID number, sent to 32810, could also be used by voters to check their details and the address of their voting station (charged at R1).
"Unregistered voters can insert their address in the Voting Station Finder application on the website (http://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/) to find their correct voting station or call the contact centre," the statement read, adding that an online facility (www.elections.org.za/MyIEC) is also available for registered voters with access to the internet to update and review their address online.
